Superior Donuts
This show is sponsored by:
FRANCO: What do you do?
ARTHUR: I run a donut shop.
FRANCO: I can do that. Is it hard?
ARTHUR: No harder than anything else.
FRANCO: How hard is anything else?
Arthur is depressed, his store has been vandalized, his neighbor is pressuring him to sell the business, and his only consistent customer is a homeless woman who gets her donuts for free. Things look bleak, until Franco Wicks knocks on the door. Franco is a young African American man with a silver tongue and a bundle of mismatched notebooks that he claims contain the next Great American Novel. He wants a job and he won’t take no for an answer. As Franco and Arthur set about restoring Superior Donuts, the older man’s past and the young man’s future are called into question in this articulate, moving, and seriously funny new play.
