Mapping the Dark

by a collaboration of artists, writers, and performers,
inspired by the work of
Rosamond Casey

directed by Fran Smith
APRIL 8 – 23
World Premiere

This show is sponsored by:

Howard and Karen Pape

"When Harold learned that he'd be deaf before the year was out, he started collecting the sounds of his life in bottles, labeling them and sealing them up with corks for later use."

Based on the 2003 art installation Mapping the Dark: A Museum of Ambient Disorders created by Rosamond Casey, this collaborative theater piece draws on the talents of musicians, dancers, actors, artists and an extraordinary selection of fiction writers.

The piece unfolds in an underground museum where a collection of art is reverently interpreted by an eccentric curator. The works are psychological portraits that begin with the visual residue left by ten individual characters, each with her own story, his own worries, losses, cravings, and private sorrows. These characters unfold in the context of witness accounts, diaries, newspaper articles, psychological reports, and through the fascinating collection of objects each one has left behind.
