Directors & Choreographers

While there are no specific rules to how the selection process works, here’s a few guidelines for you if you’d like to be considered to Direct or Choreograph a Live Arts Production:

  • Directors are generally lined up by May for the season to come (for example, May of 2012 for the 2012-2013 season)
  • You can always shoot an email to Scott Dunn, our Volunteer Coordinator, or send us your resume if you’d like to be on our list of potential Directors and Choreographers.
  • Anyone may propose to direct a piece by filling out this form (right click to download).
  • Season planning is a long process! Sometimes a show is selected with a director attached, or a specific person in mind. Sometimes the programming committee selects shows and leaves the director process open to explore who would be best.
  • Directors and Choreographers may earn a small stipend for their hard work.
  • Typically Directors for major productions in the season are chosen from among those who have directed at Live Arts in the past (although there is no rule that says it must be so).
  • A great way to learn more about directing is to assist a director on a production.
