Carpenters, Electricians, and Artists
Four weeks before a show opens, the set building volunteers begin their monumental tasks. It’s a truly magical transformation from an empty room into a living, breathing stage – realized entirely by volunteers – created under the leadership of our designers, Technical Director, and Master Carpenters.
Learn a wide variety of skills, build your confidence with a screw gun, paintbrush, or lighting instrument, and experience the pride of watching it all come together.
Role
Live Arts relies on volunteer carpenters, electricians, and artists to help build the sets for all our productions. Set builders realize the vision of the set designer and director to create a stage environment that supports the vision of the play, serves the needs of the actors, and is safe to use. Set builders works closely with the stage designer, the Live Arts production manager, technical director, and the operations director.
Time Commitment
The set crew works in the theater or in our spacious workshop on Saturdays (daytime) and Tuesdays (evenings). Set construction usually runs concurrent to the rehearsal period of each show, although schedules can vary depending on the complexity of the design.
